As the intent of the United States Department of Defense Digital Engineering (DE) initiative is interpreted through the supply chain from Pentagon to Services to Programs to Prime Contractors to Subcontractors, the initial intent can become warped. Theoretical DE is very different than DE as instantiated across the real supply chain at multiple levels. The intent of this session is to examine DE implementation needs from perspectives across the supply chain and to provide practical strategies for optimizing DE implementation.
For example, the desire for integrated, high-fidelity models is balanced with the need to protect intellectual proprietary to preserve the industrial base. The desire for easier model integration is balanced with the practicality of mandating specific tool sets for smaller organizations which support multiple customers.
